It all started with a desire to serve the community.
 

The concept for our premiere project- 6888 Kitchen Incubator- is being led by three local businesswomen — Charlynda Scales, founder and CEO of Mutt's Sauce; Dabriah Rice, owner of Divine Catering and Events; and Jamaica White, a self described "serial entrepreneur" with background in business development. The trio was connected by the Downtown Dayton Partnership through their shared belief there's a need for a shared kitchen concept downtown.

"We want to bring a business model that will help create economic growth in the community and have an impact on people," White said. "This will be a safe space for people to grow their ideas and reach their goals." They noted a collaborative kitchen concept is needed for the region as soon as possible.

"We needed to create a solution now for these businesses," Scales said.

​

 The kitchen will be used primarily by food startups and entrepreneurial chefs, but White said this space could also be used for food trucks or caterers to meal prep before their events downtown. Not only will this be a space for people to cook, the space will also be used for events and classes. There will also be the opportunity to purchase food made from the kitchen.  The current focus is getting the word out about this venture and establishing a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for renovations.

The trio believes this shared kitchen concept is another reason why people should stay in Dayton.

"I've been doing this for 15 years and I believe if there was a program in place like this (when I first started), I could have gotten more guidance and mentorship," Rice said. "For me, this is personal because I've been in the industry for so long. I know people here with passion to get to the next step, so this will bring us all together."
